Emergence by Emmanuelle John
Emergence is a dynamic immersive space created by Emmanuelle John for The Real Unreal Exhibition in Grapevine Mills. The physical artwork was designed and built in Santa Fe, NM then shipped to Grapevine, TX for installation. Due to the priorities for the project, the show elements were produced as separate attachments which allowed Emmanuelle and our team the freedom to react to the site’s facility conditions during Install.
Collaborators

PROCESS

Through an RFP, Emmanuelle’s Emergence concept was selected for a 256 sq ft room with a pipe grid ceiling. Emmanuelle and I collaborated closely on each deliverable to make sure it was aligned with our schedule, permit requirements and budget. This process included finalizing detailed design plans, FR materials documentation, project credits, and future maintenance instructions for the Operations Team to reference post-opening. We were in the unique position of designing the physical and technical elements while the install site was under active construction.

OUTCOME

We delivered the scope on schedule and under budget. From start to finish, it took about 2.5 years to complete, which allowed ample time for the creative team to explore new techniques along the way.

For artists that prefer to experiment during the build instead of using physical mockups, this project is a great reference to study.
